Sleeve tattoo is the generic name for a large tattoo or several tattoos with the same theme, executed on a person’s entire arm or only half of it. Thus, the sleeve tattoo can start from the shoulder and can stretch maximally until to the wrist (see Wikipedia). Sometimes the tattoo area may also include a part of the chest. However, when talking about “tattoo sleeve” we are considering two great categories of tattoos covering the arm: full tattoo sleeve and half tattoo sleeve. The tattoos will be drawn around the arm, forming virtually a sleeve image on it.
Due to the adoption of this way of body decoration as “cool fashion,” and with the increasing demand for tattoos, new printing techniques have emerged. Thus, besides the classic tattoo with needles, two more techniques appeared: ink tattoo and false tattoo. The first “ink” technique is printing the tattoo with a special ink without the needle. The second new “false” technique consists in printing an image onto a transparent nylon backing and then dressing it on the arm. It appears as a “sleeve” across the arm, only the tattoo pattern being visible. With the emergence of several techniques, the competition for the creation of a valuable tattoo sleeve has become a fierce battle.
